IdentityX Introduces the Infinity Platform

Fairfax, VA, February 20, 2014 – IdentityX, a global leader in mobile biometric authentication technology and Daon affiliate, today introduced Infinity—the world’s first universal authentication platform for mobile devices.

“Universal” in this context means limitless integration potential. Unlike any existing platform, Infinity allows users to mix and match authentication factors of the past (such as passwords and hard tokens) with authentication factors of today (such as biometric voice and facial recognition) and tomorrow (such as emerging technologies like iris recognition).

“All over the world, companies are scrambling to build better biometrics,” said IdentityX President Conor White. “But what’s keeping the world from online trust isn’t a better biometric factor; it’s a better platform for synchronizing, selecting, and combining the dozens of biometric and non-biometric factors we already have, and the ones we’ve yet to discover.”

Undergirding the need for a universal platform is the concept of “situational security.” Throughout the day users’ risks, activities, preferences, and tolerances are constantly changing. When risks are high, customers want extra security; when risks are low, they want more speed and convenience.

“No single authentication factor will ever be suitable for every user, for every activity, for every device,” said White. “When you try to modulate between security and convenience, you end up getting neither. But when we introduce flexibility and choice into the system, it’s suddenly possible to elevate both security and convenience simultaneously.”

With Infinity, the choices and variations are endless. Businesses implementing the platform can choose the precise levels of security they require for various actions, while their users can choose their preferred methods for meeting those security levels.

Levels of security can be configured in virtually limitless combinations, weaving together the speed of device-resident authentication with the enhanced security of server-based authentication. When new technologies emerge—like smartphone fingerprint readers—organizations can immediately take advantage of those features, even when only a portion of their user base has access to them.

“For too long, businesses have been shackled to a lowest common denominator security mentality,” said White. “That’s what makes the Infinity Platform so disruptive. The strongest authentication factor isn’t a superior biometric; it’s choice.”

The Infinity Platform was developed in affiliation with Daon, one of the largest, most trusted identity assurance software and services companies in the world, and the provider of over 700 million secure identities to mission-critical government and commercial enterprises.
