Daon Lead the European Biometric Forum

www.eubiometricforum.com

In response to the European Commission's recent call for IST projects on Trust and Confidence, 9 major European biometrics players submitted an exciting and innovative proposal. On June 3rd, 2002 this proposal was accepted. Daon has been nominated as project leader for this forum. BTexact are the technical project co-ordinators. The two companies lead the team whose aims are to develop

  • a roadmap for the European biometrics industry over the period 2003-2010 and
  • a blueprint for a Europe-wide forum for biometrics.

The group will also identify gaps in the research and development agenda and explore opportunities for large integrated demonstrator pilots in the forthcoming 5 year European Commission's R&D program (Sixth Framework). In addition the team will define the form and structure of a Europe-wide biometric organization that would respond to the needs of the whole community; device suppliers, middleware developers, system integrators, academia, end user organizations, government departments, data protection commissioners and privacy and consumer organizations.

The project partners aim to work with the widest possible group of interested parties, (with interest already expressed from partners in the USA) to establish a realistic vision for the future of the biometric industry in Europe in the context of a fast developing international market.
