Establishes U.S. Headquarters in Washington, DC
Company Appoints Jim Byrne as Senior Vice President
Washington, October 7th, 2003 - Daon, a provider of biometric identity management software systems, today announced the opening of its U.S. headquarters in Washington, DC, and the appointment of Jim Byrne as senior vice president responsible for the company’s US government business. This new office is part of Daon’s international expansion plan and further enables the company to focus on the government sector with its offerings.
Since its establishment in 2000, Daon has invested heavily in the design and development of biometric identity management middleware to meet the emerging security requirements of both government agencies and large enterprises worldwide. The company’s global headquarters is located in Dublin, Ireland, and has offices in New York City and London.
“We have built a strong client base in the government, travel and transportation sector, as well as the pharmaceutical and financial industries,” said Tony Murphy, COO of Daon. “With large-scale biometrics projects, such as the US Border & Immigration programs, about to become more common throughout the government sector, we decided that it was important to have a strong presence in the areas where our customers and partners are located.”
To head its U.S. operations, Daon has hired Jim Byrne, an identity management and security industry veteran, as a senior vice president within the organization. In this role, Mr. Byrne is responsible for defining strategy, managing operational activity and achieving revenue and profitability goals via Daon’s sales, partnership and field delivery teams across the globe.
Prior to joining Daon, Mr. Byrne held a senior management position at Precise Software, an international provider of application performance management and storage resource management software, where he was responsible for direct and channels sales support, market development, professional services, technical management and customer support. He was also responsible for supporting the integration between Precise Software Solutions and VERITAS Software, which acquired Precise earlier this year.
“With more than 15 years of experience working for both government system integrators and enterprise software companies, we strongly believe that Jim Byrne is best capable to lead our planned growth in the US Government business,” said Mr. Murphy. “His leadership style in creating high-performance teams and defining business strategies to drive results will help increase the success of Daon’s products and services in North America.”
Mr. Byrne also held multiple positions at Software AG and SAGA Software, where he was responsible for the go-to-market execution of the company’s flagship product lines. In addition, he held several engineering positions at Lockheed Martin Corporation and General Electric.
Mr. Byrne received his bachelor of science degree from the University
of Rochester and a master of science degree from George Washington
University. He is also a graduate of General Electric’s Senior
Management Program.
