Daon and IBM Showcase Authentication and Digital Signature Solution for Critical Life Sciences Data Biometric authentication system provides integrity and security of electronic content San Diego - November 14, 2002 - Daon, a provider of security-rich biometric authentication solutions (www.daon.com), has teamed up with IBM (www.ibm.com) to deliver a highly secure authentication and digital signature solution for signing clinical trial and other critical data electronically. At the BIO IT WORLD CONFERENCE & EXPO today, Daon and IBM demonstrated Daon for Documentum, which uses biometric technologies such as finger-scanning to protect access to and ensure the authenticity of critical information such as electronic clinical trial data. Jointly developed for drug makers, medical device manufacturers, and other regulated life sciences companies, the Daon offering helps life sciences companies meet the strict compliance requirements of regulatory agencies, such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), for electronic signatures and record keeping. "Thousands of clinical trials are conducted each year, leaving a paper trail that could rival the Library of Congress," said Dr. Sharon Nunes, director of Solutions Development, IBM Life Sciences. "Our mutual customers are looking to IBM and Daon for solutions that can help make the clinical trial process more manageable and safeguard vital life sciences data. Our collaboration on the Daon authentication and electronic signature solution brings together proven technologies to address this need." The Daon solution uses IBM DB2* database and IBM WebSphere* Internet software as its technology infrastructure and supports Documentum, one of the industry's first R&D content management platforms to offer electronic submission for regulated industries. The solution also is designed to integrate with a range of widely available life sciences applications. "Daon's advanced secure biometric authentication solution, coupled with IBM’s proven infrastructure technologies, offers a powerful solution for protecting the integrity of clinical and scientific data in the highly regulated life sciences industry," said Oliver Tattan, CEO of Daon. "DaonEngine has been independently assessed as the most robust and secure authentication engine. It is unrivalled in terms of scalability, availability and the performance of its biometric authentication capability.” The solution is easy to use and effective. The first step in using Daon for Documentum is to log on to the system. This is achieved by entering a user ID, then providing a finger scan instead of a password. The elimination of passwords not only lowers costs and inconvenience, it also significantly enhances security. The Daon offering shown at the BIO IT WORLD CONFERENCE & EXPO
has been successfully implemented at IBM's e-Business Solution Center
in La Gaude, France. The center now provides a laboratory environment
for Daon and IBM customers to get training and implementation support,
and perform testing and validation of the solution, based on their
data and unique requirements.
