Daon Powers Registered Traveler Program as it Reaches Milestone in Enrollments

Reston, VA, April. 08, 2008 - Daon, a leading provider of identity assurance software announced today that its award-winning platform is being used to power the popular TSA Registered Traveler (RT) program, which has exceeded 100,000 passenger enrollments. RT is now operating in 17 US airports and represents a compelling example of how the public and private sector might work together in identity (ID) management for their mutual benefits and that of citizens and consumers.

The Transportation Security Administration and private industry developed the Registered Traveler (RT) program to provide expedited security screening for passengers who volunteer to undergo a TSA-conducted security threat assessment (STA) in order to confirm that they do not pose (or are not suspected of posing) a threat to transportation or national security. The RT program is market-driven and offered by the private sector with TSA largely playing a facilitating role.

Daon’s software powers the Central Information Management System (CIMS), the secure network that links airports running the RT program and their locally contracted service providers. The accuracy of the CIMS is critical to the efficiency and security of the RT program. By binding a registered traveler’s identity to a biometrically verifiable and encrypted smart card, airports and TSA can ensure a chain of trust from vetted enrollments and issued credentials, and send alerts to all service providers regarding revoked credentials.
