Some of the earliest symbolic representations of human beings were captured in cave paintings. Prehistoric human beings were concerned with recording
the world around them, communicating with the spirit world, communicating
with the future... leaving their mark.
As
human society became more complex people needed to signify their consent
to register their individuality. Before the ability to write became
commonplace, people simply used pigment and their thumb to make their
X.
The Daon 'X' evolved as a representation of our 21st century authentication
technology, by reference to the earliest pre-literate form of authentication.
A symbol that is universally recognizable and that stems from our
most human instincts. Thus we demonstrate that biometrics are part
of a long tradition of asserting one's individuality.
The Daon 'X' symbolizes this earliest and uniquely human way of an individual making their mark.
The brand name, Daon, stems from the celtic word for human being.
It is not strongly identified with any one culture, therefore it
is universal. The look and the pronunciation of the word ['day-on']
is intuitive and yet it sits outside any of the major language groups.
The meaning fits perfectly with the strategic direction of our brand.
